Suzy Day’s boyfriend, Brandon Griffiths, recently flew in from Wales to surprise the Los Angeles native for her birthday and their anniversary.
On the last night of his trip, the couple decided to have a little cooking competition, each preparing their favorite dish. They went to Trader Joe’s and picked out separate ingredients. Once they returned home, Griffiths, 27, began cooking his surprise dish — pasta with spicy sausage in a cream sauce topped with mozzarella — while Day, 33, relaxed in the living room.
Eventually, Griffiths finished the meal, and the two sat down to eat. But after finishing her portion, Day glanced over at the sink and saw a block of cheese sitting next to her foot file, which she uses for pedicures.
“I sat there in shock for about a minute before showing him what that actually was,” the content creator tells PEOPLE exclusively. “We went from horror to laughter and then back to horror.”
” ‘Extra zesty foot-uccine, I guess,’ ” Day recalls her boyfriend saying in the moment. “He said that, and we both lost it. My stomach started to hurt immediately.”
After the couple calmed down, Day asked where Griffiths found the tool, and he led her to her pile of Amazon boxes by the fridge. Only then did she realize her boyfriend had grabbed the new foot file she’d purchased from an Amazon spa kit, thinking it was a cheese grater.
“He didn’t even wonder why the bath salts came with an accompanying cheese grater,” she says. “I then ran to my bathroom cabinet and saw my identical, used one sitting there, and my stomach immediately felt better.”

After the fiasco, Day thought it was hilarious and took to her TikTok to share what had happened. Immediately, the video blew up, amassing more than 10 million views and thousands of comments.
Reading through the comments, she noticed how most of the women were horrified, while the men just kept asking for clarification on why the cheese grater wasn’t okay to use.
“We went from can’t eat at everybody’s house to can’t even eat at our own house 😩,” Buzzfeed commented.
“Damn, not the feeta cheese 😂,” someone else wrote.
Another person said, “I need to know how the foot grater ends up ANYWHERE NEAR THE KITCHENNN.”

Despite the mix-up, Day says she will let her boyfriend cook for her again — as long as all the tools used come from, and stay in, the kitchen.
“I hope that people can take away from the video to not take life too seriously and that sometimes mistakes make for the funniest memories,” she says. “This also made me realize how powerful our minds are. I was fully convinced I was physically ill and having side effects from this foot file for 10 minutes before realizing it hadn’t even been used before. I am going to tell my mind productive things moving forward because now I know how convincing I can be!”
